The Hobgoblin Playhouse

The Hobgoblin Playhouse is surrounded by street parking, including numerous metered spaces on Gardner Street and Sunset Blvd.

Artists and performers have access to four parking spaces in the rear lot behind the venue.

General Rules

• No smoking in or around the building
• Alcohol is allowed on-site for private events with prior written approval from the Venue
• Events or productions that wish to sell alcohol as part of concessions must secure the proper temporary permitting

All ages are allowed in the space

Natural Light

The theater space has no windows or external doors, and does not have access to natural light.

The lobby has plentiful natural light via a large window in the west-facing storefront wall.

Lighting Equipment

The house and stage work lights are powered by a Philips Hue system capable of producing over 16.4 million colors. The house system can also be incorporated into production lighting designs.

For classes, workshops, events, and productions, the space is equipped with a general repertory plot. The plot consists of:

• 4x Shehds LED RGBW Lekos w/ 50 degree lenses
• 2x Chauvet Intimidator Zoom Wash 450 IRC moving lights
• 10x Shehds LED PAR RGBAW+UV LED wash lights
• ETC Nomad Lighting Control System

Productions are not allowed to alter the focus, position, or patch of the existing light plot.

Due to power constraints, productions are not allowed to bring in their own supplemental lighting equipment, or use any additional lighting units beyond what is already hanging in the plot.

Our resident lighting designer is available for productions and events in this space. Additional fees and equipment rental may apply.

Space is not soundproof

Ambient noise description

When you are backstage you can sometimes hear very faint noise from the podcasting studio next door. If the stage lights are on, they will drown extraneous sound out with their ambient fan noise.

Theatrical Sound System

The Hobgoblin Playhouse is equipped with a 7.2 surround sound system connected to a laptop running both QLab v4 and v5

The space is also equipped with a Shure wireless hand microphone and mic stand

HD Projector

The Hobgoblin Playhouse is equipped with a NEC Display NP-P627UL LCD Projector and wireless HDMI. Bookings can connect to the projector using their own laptops via the wireless HDMI connection, or load their video files onto our laptop running QLab v4 or v5.

Ground Floor

Equipment loading description

Front entrance is located up two steps through a gate and a glass door. This is the only door into the space.

Staging area is available

The space has a small dressing room and an intimate lobby, both of which can double as a staging area.

Some rooms are off-limits for shooting

No one is permitted in the equipment closets, loft storage, or control booth without express advance permission.

Shooting the exterior of the building is allowed

Please note that some productions and events may require the presence of an on-site representative at an additional fee.

Circuit breakers are accessible

There is one circuit breaker panel in the space, located backstage. All breakers are clearly labeled. Please do not access the panels yourself, except in an emergency.

There are power outlets throughout the space, including a set of outlets on stage, located downstage right

Production/Event insurance is required

Minimum $1 million in general liability coverage. If you do not have your own general liability insurance, you can purchase a rider for this location through The StageCrafts.

Furniture and decorations may be moved

There are a number of stock furniture pieces and hand props that can be used, but they must be returned to where they were found before wrap-out.

Smoke machines are allowed

QLab Programming

Looking to add sound and/or video to your booking? Book our QLab Programming services, and one of our resident designers will be happy to take your sound and video assets and program them into our system for pitch-perfect playback.

Livestream Broadcasting

Why perform only for the audience in the room, when your production or event can be broadcast worldwide? Included in our Livestreaming package is a three-camera setup that we can use to broadcast to the streaming destination of your choice. If you don't have an account on a suitable destination, you may be able to use The StageCrafts' own YouTube channel for your initial broadcast.

General Liability Insurance

All bookings and events are required to have at least $1 million in general liability coverage. If you do not have your own General Liability policy, you can purchase a rider on ours. Your coverage is good at any of our venues for any event you may book between date of purchase until our master policy renews on May 1st each year.

Press Release Composition

Want to get the word out about your show or event, but don't have a press agent? You can hire our publicist to compose a professional press release for you. As a bonus, they will provide you with a list of press outlets and contacts suitable to reach out to about your event!

Ticketing and Box Office Services

List your event or production on our ticketing platform for free, and take home 100% of your ticket sales! Pair this with our Livestreaming Services to sell virtual tickets to your event, and with our Box Office Manager for us to handle your ticketing and box office services for you. Photography & Videography

We have partnered with Matt Kamimura to provide top-notch production photography & videography services, as well as enhanced production livestreaming in 4k at discounted rates. Let us know if you'd like to book him to shoot your production or event in our space!

Graphic Design

We have partnered with LA-based illustrator and graphic designer Katelyn Schiller as our vendor of choice for postcards, posters, and promotional graphic design. If you need a graphic or promotional image for your show, let us know!

Travel

If you are coming to Los Angeles from elsewhere in the state, the country, or the world, we recommend booking your transportation and accommodations through Expedition Everywhere Travel. Founded by longtime #LAThtr community members Erin & Brett Moore, they will help you plan a comfortable and affordable visit to Hollywood, whether it's for the Fringe Festival or similar events year round!
