Two actors stand on stage in dramatic lighting. The man on the left, wearing a green knit sweater, looks thoughtful with his hand resting on his chest. The woman on the right, dressed in a burnt orange dress with flowing sleeves, gazes upward with an expression of wonder or hope. Both are bathed in warm light, standing against a dark background.

Hey there, friend. I hope you’re doing okay. Don’t forget to hydrate, and make sure you get out from behind the screen this week. Good news is, we’ve got some great options for you!

But first, I want to talk about this past weekend real quick. Over the weekend, Theatre Unleashed came in and produced a fundraiser for hurricane recovery in North Carolina benefitting the Asheville Theater Alliance. Friday night, a group of writers created six brand-new ten-minute plays, which were cast and rehearsed all day Saturday. Saturday night, the show went up, with an encore Sunday afternoon. Both performances were also streamed live so our friends on the East Coast could enjoy. In the end, we raised over $1,800 for ATA! Not bad for a weekend’s work!

Three actors on stage in a comedic scene: one woman in a polka dot dress leans back with a playful expression, while a man dressed as a priest stands in the middle, dramatically gesturing with surprise, and a third man wearing a casual blazer and ripped jeans covers his face as if embarrassed. The lighting has a purple tint, and the scene takes place on a simple black stage.

There’s still a lot of work to be done, though, and Asheville needs more help. So, if you’d like to watch the archive of the Sunday performance anytime between now and November 17th, send a donation to @TheatreUnleashed on Venmo and put “Asheville” in the memo. I’ll send you the link personally.

In other news, a new show has registered for FrostyFest! Look for them to go up on the festival site this week.

By the way, if you haven’t already, consider giving us a like or a follow on our company Facebook, Instagram, and Threads accounts! We’d love to connect with you.

Picasso, Beckett, Eno: Theatre of the Absurd

November 15th-17th | The Hobgoblin Playhouse | Tickets starting at $30
One Weekend Only!

Did you know that the most famous painter who ever lived, Pablo Picasso, once dabbled in the art of playwriting? His plays are hardly ever produced – notorious for being difficult to stage. Well, now’s your chance to check out the genius of his literary skills!

In this production, three short plays will be performed showing the growth of Absurdist theatre over the years. We start with Pablo Picasso’s “Desire Caught by the Tail” in a brand new translation by Milena Karpukhina from its original French, made for our very own production. We end the night with Pulitzer Prize finalist Will Eno’s “Tragedy: a tragedy”.

Pablo Picasso has been referred to by theatre historians as the predecessor to Samuel Beckett. Will Eno likewise has been called “Samuel Beckett for the Jon Stewart generation.” Get Tickets

Henry IV Parts I & II by William Shakespeare

November 2nd-24th | The Madnani Theater | Tickets starting at $12.51
Two Weekends Left!

The Madnani is excited to host Henry IV Parts I and II, presented by The Porters of Hellsgate. This will be the Porter’s 33rd and 34th productions in their journey towards finishing Shakespeare’s canon.

Director Margaret Starbuck on diving into the process –  “I’m thrilled to get to direct these two epic plays for the Porters. I love the way the Henry IVs dynamically intercut uproarious comedic scenes with Scandal-esque court intrigue and intense battle scenes. Their exploration of how power is gained, maintained, enforced and sacrificed for is a topic that is ripe for discussion in this election year.” Get Tickets.
